INERIS:
At INERIS, the modeling in fluid mechanics really began since six years. It has developed gradually during these last years. Today it is used more and more within the framework of security studies or impact studies. The fields concerned can be atmospheric dispersion, the fire modeling or ventilation for example.
So the applications and the needs are increasingly numerous. On the other hand, INERIS does not have important means in term of computers. There are only three or four workstations which are dedicated to modeling; what is insufficient.
Currently, INERIS carries out a reflection about the computing means’s evolution. The use of high performance computing facilities can be one of the principal possibilities that it considers for the future.
So the project can be very important because it offers the possibility to test if the contribution of high performance calculation can be beneficial for INERIS.
The project should make it possible to be able to carry out computations much more important than those carried out at the present time. Thus, it will be able to improve the quality of INERIS services and to develop even more modeling.
INERIS is also interested to test intranet solution. Indeed, the various people working in fluid mechanics are in different departments. So, some are far from the current computing means. A geographical unit of these means makes it possible to ensure a better management. Also, being able to carry out modeling by intranet without having to make important investments could be very beneficial within the framework of INERIS development.
